Of This Place
Maitland Regional Art Gallery 2022
Our bodies link our internal selves to our external world. It’s through our bodies that we are able to know and belong to places. This exhibition explores the site where the body ends and the rest of the world begins, positioning the edge of the body not as a point of separation, but as a point of connection.
There is a physical and philosophical liminality at the site where the body touches the place that it exists in. Within our edgesites we ooze out and breathe in the places that hold us. By being present in our bodies in place there is an opportunity for connection to our environment, deepening and informing a sense of self as part of place. With shadows on our skin and earth under our feet, air permeating our lungs and blood, our boundaries blur and expand into a belonging.
