A Dangerous Friend
2019
A dangerous friend is an interactive installation and performance work created in collaboration with Skip Willcox. The work articulates vulnerability and desire for connection in human relationships, both with self and with others. A dangerous friend draws inspiration from sibling relationships, playing on the line between a kiss and a bite, a hug and a restraining hold.
Movement within the performance explores the way that an act of love or care, through repetition, can become an act of violence.
Elements of the installation reference the way that the domestic space can come to represent the headspace. In inviting the viewers in, feeding them and washing their hands, a space for genuine human interaction is created as part of the work.
A dangerous friend was developed over two residencies at Catapult Choreographic Hub, Newcastle.
